Vangelis Pavlidis, born on 21 November 1998, is a Greek centre-forward for SL Benfica. The right-footed 186 cm forward is in a prolific run with 14 goals in 13 matches for Benfica this season.
Pavlidis is best characterised as a poacher. He is also capable of dropping deep and moving into dangerous spaces between the lines. Speed gives him an additional dimension compared to other forwards. His all-round output in Portugal’s top-flight has been well above the average forward, with a profile that shows he has excelled in almost every domain for his club domestically. Consistency is a noted trait. In the 2024/25 season he maintained a strong goal return.
Pavlidis left Bebides 2000 for VfL Bochum in January 2015 and progressed through U17 and U19 to the senior squad in January 2016. He moved to Borussia Dortmund II in January 2018. In January 2019 he joined Willem II Tilburg for a fee of €250k. After a spell back at VfL Bochum in June 2019, he transferred to AZ Alkmaar in September 2021 for €2.5m. The step to SL Benfica came in January 2024 for €18m.
Benfica will only sell Pavlidis for an irresistible offer. Portuguese press reports indicate no firm transfer proposal had reached the club by the end of July. Interest is concrete in the summer of 2026, with Tottenham and Barcelona both vying for his signature. The Portuguese side is ready to request as much as €100 million for the Greece international.
