Luca Reggiani

Executive Summary

Luca Reggiani is an Italian centre-back for Borussia Dortmund. Born on 9 January 2008, he was promoted to the first team in March 2026 and signed a professional contract that runs until 30 June 2029. After a rapid introduction to senior football, he now faces a congested defensive group and is being discussed as a possible departure candidate.

Playing Style and Key Attributes

Reggiani is right-footed and 194 cm. He captained Dortmund's youth ranks and showed composure during his first senior appearances, including a Champions League last-16 first-leg against Atalanta. He combines aerial presence with leadership qualities developed in the academy. Securing greater tactical consistency and holding his ground against internal competition remain areas for improvement.

Career and Recent Context

Reggiani moved from Castelvetro Youth to US Sassuolo Youth in January 2016. He advanced to Sassuolo Under 17 in January 2023 and joined Borussia Dortmund U17 in January 2024, stepping up to Borussia Dortmund U19 the same month. He was promoted to Borussia Dortmund in March 2026. Capitalising on injury problems and the departure of loanee Aaron Anselmino, he made nine professional appearances and scored once in 2025/26. He was then considered one of the losers of pre-season as Filippo Mane moved ahead in the pecking order and Joane Gadou was signed as a highly rated rival.

Transfers and Outlook

Reggiani is reported as the hottest departure candidate at Borussia Dortmund. Inter Milan and AC Milan were linked in the last transfer window, and Inter is said to have contacted his representatives. Southampton were thought to hold concrete interest and submitted a bid, which he reportedly turned down on deadline day. Per Ruhr Nachrichten, a loan move is the most likely outcome, with options discussed as time with BVB II or a loan away.
