Xavi Espart Font, born 21 May 2007, is a Spanish right-back who has forced his way into Hansi Flick's first-team plans at FC Barcelona. The 175 cm, right-footed La Masia product wears the No. 12 shirt after a pre-season that convinced both the manager and sporting director Deco.
Espart's defining trait is a midfielder's brain inside a full-back's body. "Always a step ahead," Gordo said, noting the calmness with which Espart operates whether stationed wide or centrally. That versatility — covering right-back, left-back, defensive and central midfield — gives Flick a flexible chess piece rather than a conventional overlapping full-back.
He entered the club's youth structure in January 2022, moved up to U18 a year later and reached Barcelona Atlètic in January 2024. The January 2026 step to the senior squad came after he started the La Liga opener against Elche at left-back, a 5-0 win that doubled as his audition. Since then the coaching staff have treated him as a genuine first-team option, not a squad filler, trusting his positional intelligence to cover multiple roles across a congested fixture list.
The contract runs until June 2030 and no external interest has surfaced publicly; Barcelona's focus remains on embedding him rather than cashing in.
