Tomás Araújo is currently a central pillar in the SL Benfica defensive line. Born on 16 May 2002, the Portuguese defender has successfully transitioned from a promising academy graduate to a high-value asset in the Primeira Liga. His recent performances have solidified his status as a reliable right-footed centre-back within the domestic and European circuit.
Standing at 187 cm, Araújo possesses the physical profile required for modern central defending. He operates primarily as a right-footed centre-back, a role that allows him to anchor the backline effectively. His height provides a natural advantage in aerial duels and defensive positioning. Given his development within the Benfica system, he maintains the technical discipline expected of a modern ball-playing defender.
His journey began at Palmeiras FC U15 before he moved to the SL Benfica academy in January 2016. A productive loan spell at Gil Vicente FC during the 2022-2023 season proved to be the catalyst for his development.
The market currently values Araújo at €35,000,000, a figure that reached its peak on 29 September 2026. With a contract running until 30 June 2031, Benfica holds a strong negotiating position for any potential suitors. His long-term commitment suggests the club views him as a foundational piece for their future projects.
