Ruben van Bommel is a Dutch left winger born on 2004-08-03. He plays for PSV Eindhoven. The 2026/27 season is his comeback campaign after a serious cruciate ligament injury. He has started strongly, earned a first senior Netherlands call-up under Xavi Hernández, and featured in the Champions League league phase. A late stoppage-time goal against Union Saint-Gilloise made him the tenth player to score in the competition with a father who also did so.
He is listed at 192 cm and operates on the left flank with a right preferred foot. Sources describe him as a constant threat in wide areas. Against Shakhtar Donetsk he sent a dangerous effort narrowly wide during a dominant second-half spell for the hosts. Van Bommel acknowledged frustration at failing to convert attacking threat into goals, saying threat is nice but return is lacking. Ruud Gullit believes the winger still has one important aspect of his game to develop despite an impressive comeback. The season also brought heavy backlash after a high-speed aerial clash with Aaron Bouwman in the 3-1 win over Ajax.
Youth steps were quick: SV Meerssen to PSV Eindhoven Youth in January 2013, then to MVV Maastricht U18 in January 2020. He stepped up to MVV Maastricht senior football in January 2022, moved to AZ Alkmaar in January 2023, and returned to Eindhoven in November 2025 for a fee of €15.8m. The move was followed by an encouraging start before a knee injury in the 2-2 draw against Ajax on 21 September 2025 ended his campaign. He returned to training late in the season and spent two weeks with the Under-19s to finish rehabilitation. The comeback has been professional, noted by the club’s general manager Marcel Brands.
A year ago it stood at €8m. The first recorded value was €25k in June 2022. His contract runs until 2030-06-30. No public release clause is listed and no concrete transfer rumours have emerged since the November 2025 move.
AS Roma are currently eyeing PSV left winger Ruben van Bommel for the January window. Reports suggest he is a monitoring target and a potential backup if a primary move for Endrick fails.
