Centre-BackEcuador24 years oldPlays for Arsenal FC
Piero Martín Hincapié Reyna was born on 9 January 2002. The centre-back joined Arsenal FC in January 2025. He represents Ecuador and operates primarily as a central defender.
Hincapié operates as a left-footed centre-back. His preferred foot allows him to launch attacks from deep positions, and he has shown the agility to step out of defence and carry the ball into midfield areas. Physical presence combines with technical comfort to make him a reliable presence at the heart of defence.
A year later he joined Bayer 04 Leverkusen, where he became a regular in a side that went unbeaten in the Bundesliga. In January 2025 he transferred to Arsenal FC, and a further move in January 2026 saw the club pay €40m for his services. After featuring regularly during the first half of the 2025–26 season, he sustained an ankle injury during a post-match warm-down following the Leeds United victory and has been sidelined since, missing the Champions League clash with Lille.
An ankle injury sustained in November 2026 has kept him off the pitch, and competition for places will determine his opportunities upon return. He remains under contract until June 2031, and the club will hope he can regain match fitness to strengthen their defensive options for the remainder of the season.
Barcelona are tracking Piero Hincapié as a defensive target for the January window, with several outlets reporting the Arsenal centre-back is on their shortlist. His contract at Arsenal runs to June 2031.
