Orri Óskarsson

Executive Summary

Orri Steinn Óskarsson, born on 29 August 2004 in Reykjavik, leads the line for Real Sociedad and captains Iceland. The 186 cm right-footed centre-forward joined from FC Copenhagen in August 2024 for a €20 million fee on a contract running to June 2030.

Playing Style and Key Attributes

Óskarsson fits the modern Nordic striker archetype: physically imposing, tactically sharp and instinctive inside the box. He attacks the space between centre-backs with well-timed runs, holds up play with his back to goal and finishes with either foot, though he favours his right. Sources highlight his improved decision-making in the final third — choosing the pass when the angle tightens, shooting early when the goalkeeper hesitates. His aerial presence adds a dimension on set pieces, while his pressing from the front disrupts opposition build-up. The main area for growth remains consistency over a full league schedule; his output has so far come in bursts interrupted by muscle setbacks.

Career and Recent Context

Óskarsson made his senior debut for Grótta at 13, scoring twice on the day his father managed the side to promotion. A half-season loan at Sønderjyske gave him regular minutes before he returned to net a Champions League qualifying hat-trick against Breiðablik — coached by his father — in summer 2023. His debut season at Real Sociedad was an adaptation period; the second was derailed by a rectus anterior tear that sidelined him for the final four months of 2025.

Transfers and Outlook

Real Sociedad view Óskarsson as their long-term number nine, a belief reflected in the contract running to 2030. No release clause has been publicly disclosed. His trajectory now hinges on staying fit: a full, injury-free preseason has him targeting double-figure league goals and a regular partnership with Oyarzabal. If the late-season form extends across the calendar, a step up to Champions League football — either with Sociedad or a bigger suitor — becomes a realistic next chapter.
