Executive Summary

Malick Laye Thiaw, born on 8 August 2001, operates as a right‑footed centre‑back for Newcastle United on a contract that expires in June 2029.

Playing Style and Key Attributes

At 194 cm he wins the majority of aerial duels and uses his frame to protect the space behind a high line. His reading of play lets him intercept passes before they become dangerous, while his strength holds off quick attackers in one‑on‑one situations. Distribution is functional; he prefers short, safe passes but can launch a diagonal when the moment demands.

Career and Recent Context

A first‑team debut arrived in 2020, followed by a €12.8 million move to AC Milan in August 2022 where he collected Champions League minutes. A €35 million transfer to Newcastle United in December 2025 gave him regular Premier League exposure. He was later named to the 44‑man Germany pool for the Nations League and placed in the second group.

Transfers and Outlook

Liverpool and Manchester United have been tracking his performances, according to industry sources, though no formal negotiations have opened. Newcastle have signaled they will not entertain offers, and the contract running to 2029 gives them strong leverage.
