Guillaume Restes, born 11 March 2005, is a left-footed goalkeeper standing 188 cm tall. He has become a fixture at Toulouse since breaking into the first team in January 2023. Over a hundred Ligue 1 appearances have turned him into one of the most talked-about young shot-stoppers in France.
Distribution is his calling card; he can switch play or find a striker with equal ease. Reflexes are sharp, and he attacks one-on-one situations without hesitation. Former France keeper Philippe Bergeroo calls him "esthétique et efficace". Fabien Barthez spotted the coordination and reach of a future star when Restes was still a teenager.
A minor muscular issue forced him off against Lille in early September 2026, but the club expects a quick return. His contract runs until June 2028, giving the club leverage in any negotiation.
Aston Villa have held concrete talks with his representatives and are prepared to pay around £20 million if Emiliano Martínez leaves. Bayern Munich and Lille have also monitored the situation, though Villa appear furthest advanced. The club's willingness to sell means a move could materialise quickly once the Martínez situation clarifies. The player himself is said to be open to a Premier League switch.
