Daniele Ghilardi

Executive Summary

Daniele Ghilardi is a centre-back born on 6 January 2003. He is a right-footed Italian defender listed at 189 cm and currently plays for AS Roma, where he is under contract until 30 June 2030.

Playing Style and Key Attributes

Ghilardi is profiled as a centre-back suited to a three-man defence under Gasperini. His insertion at Roma has been gradual. The first part of the season required assimilation of complex tactical concepts: aggressive man-orientations, low-block to high-block transitions and constant anticipatory decisions. The club's recruitment rationale points to a young centre-back intended to rejuvenate the rear line without sacrificing immediate competitiveness.

Career and Recent Context

He progressed through Fiorentina Under 17 in January 2019 and Fiorentina Primavera in January 2020. He moved to Hellas Verona Primavera in January 2022, returned to Fiorentina Primavera in June 2022, and then transferred to Hellas Verona in July 2022 for a fee of €5.6m. The following months were spent developing via spells with Mantova 1911 from July 2022, a return to Hellas Verona in June 2023, a move to UC Sampdoria in November 2023, and a return to Hellas Verona in June 2024. He joined Roma in February 2025 for a reported €2.5m. The deal included an obligation to buy mechanism set to be triggered in February 2026 for a further €8m plus bonuses, with sell-on interests for Fiorentina and Verona on the permanent fee and loan fee.

Transfers and Outlook

The operation was presented as a long-term investment in a class of 2003 centre-back with Serie A experience, having logged 24 league appearances in the season before his move to the capital. The permanent transfer structure involves Verona and Fiorentina sharing proceeds due to a 50% sell-on clause held by Fiorentina, with both clubs also splitting the initial loan fee.
