Corey Blackett-Taylor

Executive Summary

Corey Josiah Paul Blackett-Taylor, born on 23 September 1997, is an English left winger currently contracted to Derby County. He operates as a wide attacker in the Championship, having progressed through the Aston Villa academy and accumulated experience across several English clubs. His recent trajectory includes a productive loan spell at Bolton Wanderers that was cut short by a thigh injury. He returned to his parent club, Derby County, in May 2026, and is currently working to regain full fitness for the 2026/27 campaign.

Playing Style and Key Attributes

Blackett-Taylor plays as a left winger and is right-footed, standing at 180 cm. He is known for his direct running and ability to deliver crosses into the penalty area. His game features a clinical edge in the final third, highlighted by a debut goal against AFC Wimbledon and a last-minute winner against Wycombe Wanderers during his time on loan at Bolton. He works hard to stretch defences and provides a consistent wide outlet. His physical profile includes a noted vulnerability to soft-tissue injuries, which limited his playing time in the latter part of his loan spell and affected his early 2026/27 statistics.

Career and Recent Context

Blackett-Taylor began his career in the Aston Villa academy, making his senior debut in March 2017. After a loan spell at Walsall and subsequent release, he joined Tranmere Rovers before moving to Charlton Athletic in August 2021. He signed for Derby County initially on loan in January 2024, a move that was made permanent in July 2024. In January 2026, he joined Bolton Wanderers on loan, where he made an immediate impact before a serious thigh injury in March ended his season. He returned to Derby County in May 2026. He has represented England at Under-19 level.

Transfers and Outlook

Blackett-Taylor is under contract with Derby County until 30 June 2027. His recent loan to Bolton Wanderers demonstrated his capability to influence games in the Championship with timely goals and wide play. While recovering from a significant thigh injury, his history of decisive performances keeps him as a viable option for clubs seeking attacking depth. His immediate future hinges on completing his rehabilitation and regaining match sharpness to contribute effectively for Derby County.
