Aurélien Djani Tchouaméni, born on 2000‑01‑27, is a French defensive midfielder for Real Madrid. He stands 187 cm tall and his contract, originally due to end in June 2028, has been stretched to 2031. After a recent muscle discomfort that kept him out of the Espanyol squad, he trained with the first team and is expected back against Real Sociedad. He made his first start of the campaign versus Elche, marking his return from a lengthy lay‑off.
Right‑footed and physically imposing, Tchouaméni blends positional discipline with the ability to slot into a centre‑back role when required. He was brought to Madrid as the long‑term successor to Casemiro, a label that has expanded under three different managers. His reading of the game and vision allow him to operate as a double pivot alongside Adrien Rabiot for France, providing balance without flash. Mourinho values his tactical flexibility, a trait that rarely falls out of favour.
A €18 million move to Monaco in January 2020 preceded his €80 million transfer to Real Madrid in January 2022. The 2026‑27 season has been dominated by injury management: a muscle issue sidelined him for the Espanyol clash, cautious training preceded a possible Champions League bench spot against Inter, and a surprise start against Elche signalled his re‑integration.
Premier League interest has surfaced but has not swayed his commitment. The recent extension to 2031, reportedly backed by Mourinho, secures him as a long‑term asset for the Bernabéu.
