Aleksandr Maksimenko

Executive Summary

Aleksandr Maksimenko, born on 19 March 1998 in Rostov-na-Donu, guards the net for Spartak Moscow with his left foot and a 190-centimetre frame. He has held the undisputed number-one spot since 2025 and added a second Russian Cup winners' medal in 2026.

Playing Style and Key Attributes

Maksimenko reads the game well off his line, using his height to claim crosses that shorter keepers would leave alone. His left-footed distribution launches counter-attacks with precision, whether he rolls the ball short or drives it diagonally to the wing. Shot-stopping remains his core strength; he reacts quickly to low drives and shows good hand strength on powerful efforts from distance. European nights have been scarce — only two Champions League appearances to date — so his command in high-pressure continental ties remains unproven at the highest level.

Career and Recent Context

His senior bow came with Spartak-2 in the second tier during 2016, followed by a cup debut for the first team a year later. The 2018–19 season brought a breakthrough when an injury to the incumbent starter thrust him into the Premier League starting XI; he kept the jersey even after the incumbent returned, sharing duties before taking full ownership in 2025. Cup triumphs in 2022 and 2026 bookend his rise, and a senior Russia debut arrived in June 2024 against Belarus.

Transfers and Outlook

His contract runs until June 2027, placing him in the prime years for a goalkeeper. Foreign interest has been muted by the geopolitical climate surrounding Russian football.
